1 Tier 1 – The Concept & Nuance: Gerund-Only Verbs

Certain verbs in English are followed by the -ing form (gerund), never the infinitive with to.

2 Tier 2 – Fixed Idiomatic Expressions + -ing

– give up (= stop) ➔ “I’ve given up smoking.”
– put off (= postpone) ➔ “Don’t put off making a decision.”
– carry on / go on (= continue) ➔ “He carried on talking.”
– keep / keep on (= do repeatedly) ➔ “She kept interrupting me.”
