KET / A2 Key – lower secondary

A2 Key (formerly KET) is the first step in the Cambridge English Qualifications pathway. It shows you can use English in simple, everyday situations – the ideal foundation for moving towards B1 Preliminary.

P Cambridge PET – B1 Preliminary English Test

PET / B1 Preliminary – upper secondary

About Cambridge English exams

Cambridge English Qualifications are among the most widely recognised English exams for school-age learners. The Young Learners series – Pre A1 Starters, A1 Movers and A2 Flyers – is designed for children and has no pass or fail: every child receives a certificate showing up to five shields for each skill, which makes it a motivating first exam experience. The next steps, A2 Key (KET) and B1 Preliminary (PET), are full exams with Reading & Writing, Listening and Speaking papers, and are often used by schools as proof of level.

How our practice tests work

Every test on this page follows the format and timing of the real exam: the same parts, the same question types, and pictures and audio built for each task. You answer directly on the page and press Check to get your score instantly, question by question, with the correct answers shown – no sign-up, no downloads. All items are original practice material written by teachers to mirror the official format, so you can repeat them as many times as you like.

How to use these tests

Start one level below where you think your child is, so the first experience builds confidence. Do the Listening paper in one sitting to train concentration, then review the questions your child missed together. For KET and PET, practise Reading & Writing with a clock: time pressure is the most common reason well-prepared students underperform. Two or three full tests at the right level are usually enough to know whether your child is ready for the real exam.

Which level should my child take?

A rough guide: Starters after 1–2 years of English lessons, Movers after 2–3 years, Flyers after 3–4 years. If your child finds our Flyers tests comfortable, they are usually ready to try KET. When in doubt, try our free placement test.
