Five short conversations
You will hear five short conversations. For questions 1–5, choose the right answer (A, B or C). Each conversation is played twice.
Q1 — Dinner · Mother: We could have pizza … or chicken. Maria: Mm, what about fish? I had a pizza last night. Mother: OK. That’s easy to cook.
Q2 — Time · Man: I think my watch is wrong. Woman: Er — it’s half past two. Man: My watch keeps twenty past. Woman: It’s ten minutes slow.
Q3 — Michelle reads · Man: Can I read your newspaper? Michelle: Didn’t you bring a book? Man: Yes, but it’s not interesting. Michelle: Here you are. I’ll read this letter from John.
Q4 — Tickets · Woman: Theatre last night? Man: Play was excellent but tickets cost ninety dollars each.
Q5 — Chemist’s · Man: Where’s the chemist’s? Woman: Past the post office, next to a big supermarket. Just two minutes’ walk.
Kate’s family — where is each person going?
Listen to Kate telling Emma about her family. Where is each person going today? Choose a letter A–H for each person. Example (Sam): B (dentist’s).
Kate: Sam’s got toothache → take to dentist (example).

Listen to a woman talking to a policeman about her lost bag. For questions 11–15, choose A, B or C. Example: Where did she lose her bag? → A in town.
Policeman: Where did you lose it? Woman: In the town centre (example).
Money: usually £40-50 but today only about £20 (Q11 = A).

A man phones for Miss Dixon. Complete the message form (16–20). You will hear the conversation twice.

Woman: Brown’s Builders. Man: I’d like to speak to Miss Dixon. She’s not in. Take message: name Hyde (H-Y-D-E). Meeting about the new factory, on Wednesday at half past eleven. Go to Room 21. Ask her to bring the photographs.
Day trip — Loch Ness
A tour guide gives information about a day trip. Complete the notes (21–25). You will hear the talk twice.
🚌 DAY TRIP
Tour guide: Loch Ness trip. Three hours each way. Breakfast at half past seven. Bus leaves 8:30. After breakfast go to the car park (big one behind hotel). Bring pink tickets for lunch. If no ticket, get from the office. Bring a jacket — can be cold in the mountains.
