IELTS Path: Band 5.5 to 7+ in 12 Weeks

Band 7 is not “more practice tests” – it is a measured baseline, weeks of targeted skill work, and honest marking of your real writing and speaking. This path runs all three phases using the 46 IELTS pages on this site.

Phase 1 · Week 1: get your baseline

Two numbers before anything else: an estimated band, and a Listening + Reading score under time pressure. They decide where your 11 remaining weeks go.

Phase 2 · Weeks 2–9: train skill by skill

Spend two weeks per skill, weakest first. Each hub breaks its paper into single question types so you drill the exact thing that costs you marks.

Phase 3 · Weeks 10–12: full tests + real marking

Now simulate. Alternate full tests with examiner feedback, and spend the final week re-drilling whatever the reports flag.

Quick answers

Is 5.5 to 7 really possible in 12 weeks?

With a genuine 5.5 start, daily work and feedback on writing/speaking – often, yes for Listening and Reading; Writing is usually the slowest criterion. If the gap is wider than 1.5 bands, plan two rounds of this path rather than rushing one.

Academic or General Training?

The path is built on Academic (university admission). GT candidates can still use everything except the Task 1 report lessons – see the GT letter-writing unit instead.

Not ready for Band-7 work?

If the placement test puts you below 5.0, spend a few months on the adults path first – IELTS technique cannot outrun missing B1 grammar.
