Doing four sections in one sitting is a different skill from doing them one at a time. Most candidates who score well on single sections still lose four or five marks in a full test, and they lose them in Section 4 – because by then they have been concentrating for twenty minutes. That is the thing this page trains.

1. Sit it properly, once. Phone away, door shut, 35 minutes clear. The recording will not stop for you, and there is no rewind button on this page on purpose.
2. Write every answer as you hear it. Do not leave a blank meaning to come back – in the real test you never do. If you miss one, put anything and move on.
3. Use the transfer time. When the recording ends you get 10 minutes, exactly as in the paper test. Check spelling, check singular versus plural, and check you have not written two words where the instruction says one.
4. Already done Practice 1–4 separately? Then leave at least a week before sitting this, or your score will measure your memory rather than your listening. If you have never done them, sit this test first and use the four practice pages afterwards – each one has the full transcript with every distractor marked.

Questions 21–25 – What do the students decide about each part of the report? Choose FIVE answers from the box, A–H.

A  It needs more data.
B  It should be made much shorter.
C  It should be moved to the appendix.
D  It is already finished.

F  It needs a graph or chart.
G  It should be checked by the tutor before submission.
H  It should be deleted completely.

Section 4 – Questions 31–40

# Your answer Correct

Every recording on this page has its own practice page with the complete transcript, the distractors marked in red and the strategy drills. Go to the section that cost you the most marks – not to the whole test again.

📊 How a raw score out of 40 converts to a band

This is the published Academic Listening conversion. General Training uses the same table. One raw mark can be worth half a band around Band 6 – which is why spelling matters.

Raw score Band Raw score Band
39–40 9.0 23–25 6.0
37–38 8.5 18–22 5.5
35–36 8.0 16–17 5.0
32–34 7.5 13–15 4.5
30–31 7.0 10–12 4.0
26–29 6.5 6–9 3.5

Where to go next

Work on the section, not the test. Under 6 marks in Section 1 means spelling and numbers. Under 6 in Section 2 means position words on the plan. Under 6 in Section 3 means you are hearing suggestions as decisions. Under 6 in Section 4 means you stopped to think and never caught up.
