A I’ll do — deciding now

I / you / he / she / we / they will (‘ll) / won’t do

Use will (‘ll) + base verb when you decide to do something at the moment of speaking — you hadn’t planned it before.

+The phone’s ringing. I’ll answer it. · It’s cold — I’ll close the window.
Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. · The car won’t start. (won’t = will not)
?Will you help me? · What time will they arrive?

💡 The decision happens as you speak. After will always use the base verbwill to go / will goes → will go.

B will for opinions about the future

We often use will after these words to give an opinion or guess about the future:

I think …I don’t think …I’m sure …I expect …I wonder …probably
I think it will rain later. · I’m sure you ‘ll pass the exam.
I don’t think she ‘ll be late. · They ‘ll probably win the match.

📖 Word order with probably: after will ( will probably come ) but before won’t ( probably won’t come ).

C will vs going to / present continuous

Don’t use will for something you have already decided or arranged. Use going to or the present continuous instead.

I’ll watch TV this evening. (✗ if you decided earlier)
I’m going to watch TV this evening. (decision already made)
I’m meeting Sam at 6:00. (an arrangement)

⚠️ will = decide now; going to = decided before; present continuous = already arranged.

D Shall I …? / Shall we …?

Use Shall I …? to offer to help and Shall we …? to make a suggestion.

Offer Shall I carry that bag for you?
Suggestion Shall we go out tonight? · Where shall we eat?
📌
Remember‘ll = a decision made as you speak, an offer or a promise; won’t = will not (often a refusal); Shall I/we? = offers and suggestions. Always follow them with the base verb.
