1 Tier 1 – The Concept & Nuance: Garments, Footwear & Regional Variants
Clothing items in English carry specific distinctions between single items and plural-only items. Regional differences between British and North American English are very common in this topic.

💡 Plural-Only Rule: Items with two legs or two lenses (trousers, pants, jeans, shorts, glasses) are always plural. Use plural verbs: “My glasses are on the table” or say “a pair of glasses”.
2 Tier 2 – Essential Collocations & Confusing Pairs
| Wear (state) | Describes what is already on your body: “She is wearing a green coat today.” |
| Put on (action) | The physical movement of dressing: “Put on your warm jacket – it’s freezing outside!” |
| Take off (action) | The physical movement of removing clothes: “Please take off your shoes at the door.” |
| Dress / Get dressed | To put on clothes in general: “He got dressed quickly after his shower.” |
3 Tier 3 – Top 3 Common Learner Pitfalls
– Rule: Jeans, trousers, shorts, and glasses always take plural agreement.
– Rule: Use put on for the moment of action; use wear for the existing state.
– Rule: Never use a directly before plural nouns like glasses.
