1 Tier 1 – The Concept & Nuance: Conditions, Temperatures & Grammar Patterns

English uses three core sentence formulas to talk about weather conditions: It is + adjective, It is + verb-ing, and There is + noun.

What is the weather like? Standard English question: “What’s the weather like in London?”
How is the weather? Also correct: “How’s the weather today?” (Never say: How is the weather like?).

Rule: Never mix How with like in weather questions.

Rule: Weather is uncountable; never use a/an before it.

It is heavily raining outside.
It is raining heavily outside. / There is heavy rain.

Rule: Adverb heavily follows the verb raining.
