A How we form it

💡 After did / didn’t, use the base verb: She didn’t go ✓ — not ~~didn’t went~~.

B When we use it

For an action that started and finished in the past — often with a past time word.

C Spelling of regular -ed

most verbs + ed	work → worked · play → played
ends in -e + d	live → lived · arrive → arrived
consonant + y → -ied	study → studied · try → tried
vowel + consonant double it	stop → stopped · plan → planned

D Common irregular verbs

Many useful verbs are irregular — learn them by heart:

Remember — past simple = verb + -ed (regular) or a special form (irregular), same for all subjects. Negatives & questions use did + base verb.
