A I’ll do — deciding now
Use will (‘ll) + base verb when you decide to do something at the moment of speaking — you hadn’t planned it before.
| + | The phone’s ringing. I’ll answer it. · It’s cold — I’ll close the window. |
| − | Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. · The car won’t start. (won’t = will not) |
| ? | Will you help me? · What time will they arrive? |
💡 The decision happens as you speak. After will always use the base verb — will to go / will goes → will go.
B will for opinions about the future
We often use will after these words to give an opinion or guess about the future:
📖 Word order with probably: after will ( will probably come ) but before won’t ( probably won’t come ).
C will vs going to / present continuous
Don’t use will for something you have already decided or arranged. Use going to or the present continuous instead.
⚠️ will = decide now; going to = decided before; present continuous = already arranged.
D Shall I …? / Shall we …?
Use Shall I …? to offer to help and Shall we …? to make a suggestion.
