A Form — used to + base verb (same for everyone)
| + | I used to play tennis. · She used to have long hair. |
| − | We didn’t use to like coffee. · He never used to cook. |
| ? | Did you use to live here? · Did it use to rain a lot? |
💡 In questions and negatives we drop the -d: did you use to…? · didn’t use to… — never did you used to.
B Use — things that were true before, but not now
used to describes a past habit (something done regularly) or a past state that has now changed.
📖 It works with states too — verbs like be, have, like, know: She used to have a motorbike. · I didn’t use to like spicy food.
C used to is past only — no present form
⚠️ For something happening now, use the present simple (I play, she works). Keep used to for the past only.
