Five short conversations
You will hear five short conversations. You will hear each conversation twice. There is one question for each conversation. For questions 1–5, choose the right answer (A, B or C).
Q1 — Where will the man and woman meet? · Man: I’ll see you outside the cinema at six. Woman: Why not the station, or the café? Man: We need to be at the cinema at six to buy the tickets, then we can go to the café. (1 = A at the cinema)
Q2 — What’s the date of Emma’s birthday party? · Woman: Emma’s twentieth birthday in June? Man: It’s in July actually. Woman: The twenty-first? Man: That’s right — the day after mine. (2 = C 21st July)
Q3 — Where is Norah’s watch? · Girl: I left my watch on the bookshelf. Mum: I think it’s in the kitchen. Girl: That’s your watch, Mum. Mum: Oh, then I’m wearing yours! (3 = A on her mum’s wrist)
Q4 — How much is a ticket for tonight’s match? · Woman: Going to the basketball tonight? Man: How much? Woman: Usually six pounds, but a special price tonight — three pounds fifty. (4 = A £3.50)
Q5 — Which is the boy’s brother? · Boy: There’s my brother. Girl: The one with dark hair? Boy: My brother’s got blond hair. Girl: And he’s got the same glasses as you. (5 = B fair hair, with glasses)
Amy’s shopping trip — what did they buy?
Listen to Amy telling her father about her shopping trip. What did she and her friends buy? For questions 6–10, write a letter A–H next to each person. Example: Amy → H (video).
Dad: Did you spend all your money, Amy? Amy: No — I found the video I wanted (example = H). Alison’s suitcase was too small, so she bought a new one (6 Alison = F suitcase).
Amy: We went with Helen to look at mobile phones — her parents are buying her one, so she bought a magazine with information about them (7 Helen = B magazine). Lucy looked at shoes but they were too expensive; her mum will like the sweater she bought (8 Lucy = G sweater).
Dad: What did Kerry buy? Amy: A picture of our favourite band (9 Kerry = D picture). Jo got their new CD today (10 Jo = A CD).
Jamie & his mum — a new flat
Listen to Jamie talking to his mother about a flat. For questions 11–15, choose A, B or C. Example: At the moment, Jamie is living → B (in the university).
Jamie: I’m moving from my room at the university into a flat with friends (example = B). Mum: Near the university? Jamie: Twenty minutes by bicycle, buses every half hour — but I’ll walk through the park (11 = C on foot).
Mum: Quiet enough to study? Jamie: There’s a shoe shop downstairs, but it’s never busy (12 = A over a shop). Mum: Expensive? Jamie: Two hundred pounds a week, but five of us — so forty pounds each (13 = B £40).
Mum: A nice kitchen? Jamie: The fridge is old and the cooker’s small, but can I use your washing machine — there isn’t one there (14 = C a washing machine). Mum: When will you move? Jamie: Saturday. Mum: Wait until the next day (Sunday) and we’ll help (15 = B Sunday).
Theatre tickets
You will hear a woman asking about tickets for the theatre. Listen and complete questions 16–20. You will hear the conversation twice.
🎭 THEATRE TICKETS
Man: Queen’s Theatre. Woman: Two tickets for this week’s show — Saturday’s best. Man: Saturday’s gone; we have a few for Wednesday evening or Thursday afternoon. Woman: The evening (16 = Wednesday). How much? Man: Eight pounds fifty each (17 = £8.50).
Man: Collect them from the ticket office in Ferret Road (F-E-double-R-E-T) (18 = FERRET). Woman: When does it begin? Man: At seven forty-five (19 = 7.45 p.m.). Take the one-three-six bus from the town centre (20 = 136).
Holiday competition
You will hear some information about a competition to win a holiday. Listen and complete questions 21–25. You will hear the information twice.
