For each question, choose the picture that matches what you hear. You will hear each short conversation twice.
1. Which boat will the family travel on?

2. What has Karim left at home?

3. What will Leila buy at the harbour shop?

4. Where will the visitors meet the guide?

5. Which food will Hana bring on the boat?

Part 1 transcript
Which boat will the family travel on?
Woman: Shall we take the red ferry to Gull Island on Saturday?
Man: It leaves at eight, which is too early for the children. The green sailing boat goes after lunch, but I think we should take the white boat with the blue cabin. It leaves at ten and has room for our bags.
Woman: Good idea. I will book the white boat for all of us.
What has Karim left at home?
Man: Have you packed everything for the harbour trip, Karim?
Boy: I have my camera and the island map in my bag. Oh, I forgot my binoculars. They are still beside my bedroom window.
Man: We can borrow a pair at the nature centre.
What will Leila buy at the harbour shop?
Woman: What are you looking for in the harbour shop, Leila?
Girl: I sent my cousin a lighthouse postcard last week, so I don't need another one. I like that shell necklace, but it costs too much. I'll get him the little wooden model boat with the blue sail.
Where will the visitors meet the guide?
Man: The notice says to meet beside the harbour clock. Is that still right?
Woman: No, there is building work on the wall today. The guide will wait outside the aquarium instead. We will finish our walk at the lighthouse gate.
Which food will Hana bring on the boat?
Woman: Will you bring the cheese sandwiches for the boat, Hana?
Girl: My brother is making those. There is already a box of biscuits on board, too. I will bring three apples. We can eat them after we visit the birds.
Part 2 · Questions 6–10
Match the people to the jobs
Listen to Amira talking about volunteers at the Harbour Discovery Weekend. What will each person do? For questions 6–10, choose A–H. The example uses one letter; do not use it again. Use each remaining letter at most once. Two jobs are not needed. You will hear the conversation twice.
Example: Amira — D, welcome visitors at the information desk.
6. Bruno
7. Chloe
8. Dinesh
9. Eva
10. Farah
Part 2 transcript
Woman: Have all the volunteers chosen a job for the Harbour Discovery Weekend, Amira?
Girl: Nearly. I will welcome visitors at the information desk. We have a list of activities and maps to give them.
Woman: What about Bruno? He said he might serve drinks in the café.
Girl: He was going to, but Eva offered to work in the café. Bruno will sell tickets for the boat trip instead. The ticket machine is easy to use.
Woman: And Chloe? Is she taking photographs?
Girl: No, she has brought her brushes and blue paint. She is going to paint signs for the boat tour. Rosa will take photographs for the website.
Woman: I thought Dinesh was going to clean the beach path.
Girl: That was the first plan, but the path is already clean. Dinesh knows a lot about the old fort, so he will show visitors around it.
Woman: Then who is serving drinks in the café?
Girl: Eva is. Rosa is taking the photographs, so Eva is free to help in the café. Farah will look after the small children in the craft room. Their parents can visit the boats while the children make paper fish.
Woman: That sounds organised. I hope the weather is kind to us.
Girl: So do I. Everyone will meet at the harbour office before the visitors arrive.
Part 3 · Questions 11–15
Choose the correct answer
Listen to a conversation about booking a beginner pottery course. For questions 11–15, choose A, B, or C. You will hear the conversation twice.
A Experienced artists · B Complete beginners · C School teachers
Answer: B — Niko says the course is for complete beginners.
11. Which day has Niko booked?
12. How much will Niko pay for the course?
13. What should Niko wear or bring to the first lesson?
14. What will the students make in their first lesson?
15. Where is the Harbour Arts Room now?
Part 3 transcript
Man: I saw a notice for a beginner pottery course at the Harbour Arts Room. Have you booked it, Niko?
Boy: Yes, it's for complete beginners. I called this morning. I wanted the Tuesday class, but it was full, so I booked Thursday evening.
Man: How much does it cost?
Boy: The full price is forty pounds, but students pay thirty-two. I showed them my student card, so that's what I will pay.
Man: Do you need to buy clay before the first lesson?
Boy: No, the teacher provides the clay and the tools. We need to bring an old shirt because the room can get messy. I will put one in my bag.
Man: What will you make first?
Boy: I thought we would make a cup, but the teacher starts with a small bowl. She says that is easier for beginners. Later, we can choose another object.
Man: Where is the arts room? Is it in the museum?
Boy: It used to be in the museum, but now it is above the harbour library. The entrance is on the side street, next to the bakery.
Man: How many weeks does the course last?
Boy: Six weeks. After the last class, the teacher will heat our bowls in a special oven. We can collect them the following Friday.
Man: I might join the next course. Is there still space?
Boy: I think so, but call soon. They only take eight people in each group, so the teacher can help everyone.
Part 4 · Questions 16–20
Complete the telephone note
You will hear a telephone conversation about a lost backpack. Complete each space with a word or short phrase. You will hear the conversation twice.
Harbour Office Lost Property Note
Reason for calling: a lost backpack
Part 4 transcript
Man: Good afternoon, Harbour Office. How can I help?
Woman: Hello. I think I left my backpack somewhere during the island trip. My name is Maya Okafor. That's O-K-A-F-O-R.
Man: Thank you. Was it lost on Friday? We found a few things after the school group came in.
Woman: No, mine was on Saturday afternoon. I was travelling back from Gull Island.
Man: Can you describe the backpack?
Woman: It's dark green with a small blue label on the front. There is a red lunch box inside, but the bag itself is green.
Man: We found a dark green one. Do you know where you left it?
Woman: I looked beside the bus on the pier and I called the island bus company. Then I remembered having a drink on the ferry. I think I left it on a chair in the ferry café.
Man: That is where our member of staff found it. You can collect it from this office. What time can you come?
Woman: I finish class at five. Could I come at half past five? I can't get there by four.
Man: Yes, we are open until six. Please bring some identification when you collect it.
Woman: I will. Thank you for your help.
Part 5 · Questions 21–25
Complete the nature centre notes
Listen to a guide talking about a visit to the island nature centre. Complete each space with a word, number, or short phrase. You will hear the talk twice.
Gull Island Nature Centre Visit
Centre location: Gull Island
Part 5 transcript
Woman: Welcome to Gull Island Nature Centre. The island is a quiet place for birds and sea animals, and our team is happy to help you enjoy your visit. The first boat arrives at nine in the morning. The centre opens half an hour later, at half past nine. Please wait by the blue door until a member of staff comes to meet you.
Woman: In summer, you may see eighteen kinds of birds around the island. Twelve kinds stay here through the winter, but many more arrive when the weather is warm. We have a short pond walk every morning. The path can be wet, so please wear walking shoes. You can borrow binoculars from the desk, and you are welcome to bring a camera.
Woman: Lunch is available from twelve until one thirty. We serve it in the garden room, beside the small plant garden. If it rains, please come inside and use the tables there. The large hall is for our afternoon talks, not for lunch.
Woman: The guided walk finishes at three o'clock. Please allow time to return to the pier. The last boat leaves Gull Island at quarter to four, so do not wait until the final minute. We hope you have a lovely day learning about the island's wildlife.

Listening tips and learning review
Compare before listening
Look for the detail that changes between the pictures. For the matching task, read all eight volunteer jobs and keep the example separate from your five answers.
Follow the final decision
A first suggestion may change. Listen for a reason or a correction before choosing. In the notes, use the label to predict a surname, day, colour, place, time or number. Check spelled letters and keep each detail in the correct box.
Learn from the evidence
After checking your own answers, replay the sentence that proves each key. Practise the useful phrases aloud. Show Answer reveals evidence without filling a box or awarding a mark. The two personal notes boxes are not graded.
