Woman: Look for Lily. She has yellow clips in her hair. She is hanging a paper lantern on a low branch.
Child Girl: I can see the lantern she is hanging.
Woman: Omar is at the craft table. He is wearing a red scarf and painting a green dragon on a round lantern.
Child Boy: That dragon looks great!
Woman: Sophie is beside the garden path. She has purple wellington boots and is watering the small flowers.
Child Girl: The flowers need a drink.
Woman: Jack is near the tent. He has curly hair and a blue waistcoat. Listen to him playing that little drum.
Child Boy: I can hear it.

📝 Listen and write
Narrator: Part Two. Listen and write. There is one example.
Woman: Hello. I’m booking a place at the lantern workshop. My first name is Nora.
Narrator: Can you see the answer? Now you listen and write.
Child Girl: Could you spell your surname, please?
Woman: Yes. Green. G-R-E-E-N.
Child Girl: And how many places would you like?
Woman: Three, please. One for me and two for my cousins.
Child Girl: The workshop starts at four o’clock. Is that all right?
Woman: We won’t get there that early. Could we come at four thirty instead?
Child Girl: Yes, I’ll put down half past four. Which day would you like?
Woman: Saturday, please. We’re visiting the garden then.
Child Girl: The workshop is in the big tent.
Woman: I thought it was in the tent, but the festival map says the Glasshouse. Could you check?
Child Girl: You’re right. It’s in the Glasshouse, beside the pond.
Woman: Perfect. Thank you.
Match the items
Match each child to the craft they made or will use. There is one example; two items are not used.
Narrator: Part Three. Listen and write a letter in each box. There is one example.
Woman: Ella, what did you make at the craft table?
Child Girl: A paper flower. I put a yellow circle in the middle.
Narrator: The answer is D. Now you listen and write.
Woman: Ravi, tell me about your festival craft.
Child Boy: I made a green lantern. I wanted it to look like a dragon, with a long tail.
Woman: Grace, what did you make?
Child Girl: A little bird. It’s made of wood, and I fixed it to a stick so I can wave it.
Woman: Tom, did you make the silver star?
Child Boy: I began one, but it was tricky. I finished a blue fish instead, with paper fins.
Woman: Ava, are you holding those ribbons for someone?
Child Girl: They’re mine. I’ll dance with one in each hand when the music starts.
Woman: Noah, what are you putting on the candle table?
Child Boy: My clay bowl. I made it round and painted a pattern around the edge.
Listen and tick (✓) the box
Look at the pictures. Listen and tick (✓) the box. There is one example.
Narrator: Part Four. Listen and tick the box. There is one example.
Child Girl: Which lantern are you carrying, Sam? The one with a moon?
Child Boy: No, that’s my first drawing. I painted a happy face on this one.
Child Girl: It’s lovely!
Narrator: The answer is B. Now you listen and tick the box.
Woman: Which lantern will you carry, Ruby?
Child Girl: I thought I’d take the tall one with red stripes, but it’s too heavy. I’ll carry the small one with blue dots.
Woman: That will be easier.
Woman: What are you putting on the table, Max?
Child Boy: I brought a glass jar, but it wobbles. My paper boat is still wet, so I’ll use my clay pot. It stands firmly.
Woman: Good choice.
Child Girl: Shall we go through the rose arch to the music tent?
Child Boy: That path is crowded. Let’s go past the pond and over the little bridge.
Child Girl: All right. We can see the lights from there.
Woman: What will you paint on your lantern, Ella?
Child Girl: I wanted a purple star, but I have no purple paint. I have red paint, so I’ll paint a bird.
Woman: A red bird will look bright.
Woman: Which instrument are you taking in the parade, Leo?
Child Boy: I was going to play the bells, but my sister has them. I’ll take the wooden flute. I practised it yesterday.
Woman: We’ll hear you clearly.
