PART 1 · QUESTIONS 1–5
Five short conversations
For each question, choose the correct picture, A, B or C.
What is Nina bringing to the centre?
Answer: A
1. Which room will Ben use for the club meeting?
2. How will Ella get to the centre?
3. What will the children make at the craft table?
4. Which snack will Sam buy?
5. What should Maya bring for the gardening group?
Transcript — Part 1
Man: What are you bringing to the community centre, Nina? The children always enjoy your flowers.
Woman: I thought about flowers, but the shop was closed. I baked a cake this morning, so I’ll bring that.
Woman: Ben, where is your club meeting today? Is it still in the kitchen?
Man: No, the cooking group has booked the kitchen. I asked about the garden room, but the children are practising there all morning and it gets quite noisy. We’re in the small hall, beside the front desk.
Man: Are you cycling to the centre, Ella? You usually ride there.
Woman: I was going to, but the weather report says it’ll rain all afternoon. The train takes too long from my village, so I’ll catch the bus that stops outside the library.
Woman: What are you making with the children at the craft table? I thought you were painting stones.
Man: That was the plan, but the paint hasn’t arrived. We have plenty of coloured paper, so we’ll make animal masks. The clay is for next week.
Woman: The café has cheese sandwiches, yoghurt and apples. What would you like, Sam?
Man: The sandwich looks good, but I had one for lunch. I don’t want yoghurt today either. I’ll take an apple, please.
Woman: I am joining the gardening group. Should I bring a watering can?
Man: No need, Maya. The centre has watering cans and small forks for everyone. Please bring your gardening gloves, though. We are clearing the flower beds first.
PART 2 · QUESTIONS 6–10
People choosing activities
You will hear a conversation about activities at a community centre. For questions 6–10, match each person to the correct activity, A–H. Use each letter once. There are two extra activities.
Which activity does Alex choose?
Answer: H
6. Lucy
7. Omar
8. Grace
9. Peter
10. Sofia
Transcript — Part 2
Woman: We have several Saturday workshops. Alex is already signed up for bicycle repairs, isn’t he?
Man: Yes, he’s bringing his old bike. Let’s find activities for the others.
Woman: Lucy said she might learn to bake. Is that still what she wants?
Man: She loves taking pictures of her grandparents, but she has decided on a photo album workshop. She wants to put their old family photographs together as a present.
Woman: Omar runs the little café near the station. Perhaps he’ll join the computer group?
Man: He asked about computers because his till is slow, but he’s taking the bread-making class. He wants to bake fresh bread for the café.
Woman: Grace is visiting her cousin in July. Would she like to grow vegetables with me?
Man: She’s not interested in gardening. She has chosen the dance practice because she wants to learn a short routine for her cousin’s wedding.
Woman: And Peter? He has a computer that needs fixing.
Man: He talked about that, but his sister is helping with the computer. Peter wants to grow tomatoes and herbs on his balcony, so he’s joining the vegetable group.
Woman: Sofia is good at painting. Will she make the new sign for the centre?
Man: She’s already painted a sign for her school. She wants to learn how to repair her old laptop, so she’ll come to the computer workshop.
Woman: That leaves the sign and table tennis sessions open. I’ll put the names on the list.
PART 3 · QUESTIONS 11–15
A conversation about a community garden
For each question, choose the correct answer, A, B or C.
When did Jamie first visit the garden?
A last spring · B last summer · C last autumn
Answer: B
11. Why did Jamie join the garden group?
12. What did the group buy first?
13. Where will the new picnic table go?
14. Which job does Jamie enjoy most?
15. What will the group do next month?
Transcript — Part 3
Woman: Jamie, how long have you been coming to the garden? I remember your first visit last summer.
Man: That’s right. I came last summer, when the group was looking for new members.
Woman: What made you join? You already had plants at home.
Man: I did, but I didn’t know many people in this part of town. I wanted to meet my neighbours, and working outside seemed a nice way to do it. I wasn’t looking for flowers for my job; I work in an office.
Woman: The garden looks very different now. What did you buy first? Was it the little shed?
Man: No, we bought tools first: spades, gloves and a wheelbarrow. The shed came a few weeks later. A shop gave us the first seeds for free.
Woman: Where are you putting the picnic table? I thought it would go beside the shed.
Man: That was our first idea, but it’s too windy there. We’ll put it under the apple tree, where there’s shade in the afternoon. The entrance is too busy.
Woman: Which job do you enjoy most? You’re always watering things.
Man: Watering is useful, and I like making labels so everyone knows what’s growing. But my favourite job is cooking the vegetables we pick. We share lunch together on Fridays.
Woman: What are you planning for next month? The group mentioned a greenhouse.
Man: We looked at one, but it costs too much. We’ll have a small open day instead, with tea and a tour for people who might join. We can visit the garden in Oak Street later in the year.
Woman: I’ll come and help with the open day. It sounds like a lovely way to welcome people.
PART 4 · QUESTIONS 16–20
Booking a room
You will hear a woman booking a room for a club meeting. Complete the form. Write one word, a number or a time in each gap.
Club name: ______ Club
Answer: Green
Transcript — Part 4
Woman: Hello, I’d like to book a room for the Green Club, please.
Man: Certainly. Is that G-R-E-E-N?
Woman: Yes. We meet once a week.
Man: Would Monday suit you? Room three is free then.
Woman: We usually meet Monday, but our leader works late that day now. Could we book Tuesday instead?
Man: Yes, Tuesday is available.
Man: What time would you like to start? We close at eight.
Woman: We first thought of six, but people finish work at different times. Half past six would be better.
Man: All right. Room two is being painted, so I can offer room four.
Woman: Room four is perfect. It’s next to the kitchen, isn’t it?
Man: How many chairs should I put out? There are twenty in the room.
Woman: Twelve, please. We have ten members and two visitors joining us.
Man: Would you like coffee, juice or tea ready when you arrive?
Woman: Tea, please. We’ll bring our own biscuits. Thank you for your help.
PART 5 · QUESTIONS 21–25
Notice about a family fun day
You will hear an announcement about a family fun day. Complete the form. Write one word or a number in each gap.
Place: West ______ Park
Answer: Hill
Transcript — Part 5
Woman: Hello, everyone. We’re pleased to invite you to our family fun day at West Hill Park.
Woman: The event will take place on the eighteenth of May. We planned to meet on the eleventh, but the park is being used for a school race that weekend.
Woman: Adults can enter for five pounds. A ticket for a child aged two or over costs three pounds, and babies under two can come in free.
Woman: Bring a blanket for the picnic area. There will be benches near the café, but families can sit together on the grass if they bring a blanket.
Woman: The first activity is face painting, which begins at ten o’clock. The musicians arrive at eleven, so please come early if your children want their faces painted.
Woman: If you lose a coat or toy, ask at the lost property table near the main gate. It will be beside the flower display, not inside the café. We hope you have a wonderful day.

Learning review & listening guide
1. How to record your answers
Listen to five parts about everyday plans and activities at a community centre. Choose A, B or C in Parts 1 and 3, match people to activities in Part 2, and complete the forms in Parts 4 and 5. There are 25 scored questions; each is worth one mark. Examples are not scored. Each scored recording is intended to be played twice. Use Show Answer and the transcripts after recording your own responses. Reveals do not fill answers or earn marks. Parts 4 and 5 state what to write in each gap.
2. Clue words & patterns
- In Part 1, listen for the speakers’ final decision. They may mention other pictures before correcting or changing a plan.
- In Part 2, match each person to the activity confirmed in the conversation. Use each letter once; the example uses H, leaving two options unused.
- In Parts 4 and 5, write only the requested word or number. Listen for corrections, spellings, and the exact information that fits each label.
3. Watch out & common mistakes
- Do not select an option just because you hear its name first. Wait for the speaker to confirm what they will actually do.
- Do not reuse a Part 2 letter. For form gaps, follow the stated word limit and do not add extra information.
