PART 1 · QUESTIONS 1–5
Short conversations
For each question, listen and choose the correct picture, A, B or C. You will hear each conversation twice. There is one example.
What will Mia bring to the repair cafe?
Answer: B
1. Which tool does Leo need to bring?
2. What will Ava take to the outdoor event?
3. What food will Ben make for the event?
4. How will Nina travel to the town hall?
5. Which activity will Sam try first?
Transcript — Part 1
Woman: Mia, are you bringing your umbrella to the repair cafe?
Girl: No, the umbrella is fine. I thought about the yellow lamp, but its switch works now. I will bring my red backpack. Its zip is broken, and I would like to fix it before school on Monday.
Man: Leo, have you packed a tool for your loose shelf?
Boy: I put a hammer in my bag, but Dad says we need to turn a screw. I will bring a screwdriver instead. We are not painting the shelf, so I can leave the paintbrush at home.
Woman: Ava, will you take your green coat for the outdoor event?
Girl: It is too warm for that. I will take my red scarf in case it gets cool later. I can keep it in my bag. My yellow hat is still at school, so I cannot bring it.
Man: Ben, are you making apple cakes for the cafe lunch?
Boy: There is not enough time to bake them. I will cook carrot soup and serve it in cups. We had cheese sandwiches last time, so something warm will make a nice change. My aunt gave me an easy recipe.
Woman: Nina, are you taking the bus to the town hall?
Girl: The road is busy, so buses are slow today. It takes too long to walk from my house. I will ride my bicycle on the path beside the river. There is a place to leave it outside the hall.
Man: Sam, what will you try first at the workshop?
Boy: I want to look inside that old radio later, but I will start by making a bird feeder. All the wood is ready. The herb-planting class is not until the afternoon, so I can do that after lunch.

Transcript — Part 2
Woman: Welcome to the repair cafe. I’m Jo, one of the volunteers. We have eight activities today. Oliver, you chose sharpening garden tools, didn’t you?
Boy: Yes. I thought about making a bird box, but my grandfather is bringing his tools, so I’ll sharpen our old garden shears with him.
Woman: Good. Grace, what would you like to try?
Girl: I brought my blue jumper. The sleeve has a small tear. I don’t need to make a bag, but I’d love to learn how to mend it.
Woman: Good. Hassan?
Man: I came to ask about the clock table, but my bicycle bell stopped working this morning. Could I check that instead?
Woman: Certainly. Lucy, we have cloth and simple sewing machines.
Girl: Perfect. I have an old curtain at home, and I want to turn it into a shopping bag. I’ve already chosen the fabric.
Woman: Peter, are you here with your uncle?
Boy: Yes. We planned to paint a pot, but he brought a small kit. We’re going to build a wooden bird box together.
Woman: And Maya?
Girl: I like the smell of fresh bread. I usually buy rolls at the shop, so I’d like to learn to bake them today.
Woman: Please keep your name card on the table while you work. We stop at twelve thirty for lunch. Ask a volunteer before you try a second activity.
PART 3 · QUESTIONS 11–15
Conversation
Listen to two friends talking about a weekend event. For questions 11–15, choose A, B or C. There is one example. You will hear the conversation twice.

A at the library · B in the town hall yard · C at the sports centre
Answer: B
11. What time does the first repair table open?
12. What should Ellie bring for the book swap?
13. Why can’t Max help at the food table?
14. Which activity will Ellie and Max try together?
15. How will they get home?
Transcript — Part 3
Girl: Max, is the weekend event in the town hall yard? I saw a notice at the library.
Boy: Yes, Ellie. The music show is at the sports centre next week. This event starts at nine, but the repair tables open at half past nine.
Girl: Shall we meet at nine fifteen? I want to join the book swap. Do I need two books?
Boy: Just one book you have finished, in good condition. You do not need a library card.
Girl: Can you help at the food table in the morning?
Boy: Sorry, I promised to help my neighbour move a sofa. I can come after that.
Girl: Then I can help with food. Later, shall we repair my chair?
Boy: It is too heavy to carry. Let us make a paper lamp together. They provide the coloured paper.
Girl: Good idea. Is the tree-planting group full?
Boy: Yes, it is. We will have enough to do. How shall we get home?
Girl: The weather should be fine, and it is only twenty minutes to my street. Let us walk.
Boy: All right. We can stop at the bakery on the way.
PART 4 · QUESTIONS 16–20
Note completion: workshop booking
Listen to a conversation between a student and a volunteer. Complete questions 16–20. Write one word or number in each gap. There is one example. You will hear the conversation twice.
Visitor's first name: ______
Answer: Jamie
Transcript — Part 4
Woman: Hello. Can I help you?
Boy: Yes, I would like to book the small-item repair workshop. My name is Jamie.
Woman: Thanks, Jamie. The workshop is on Friday, not Thursday as the first poster said. Can you come then?
Boy: Yes. What time does it start?
Woman: We open the hall at four. The safety talk begins at four fifteen, and the repair work finishes at five thirty.
Boy: What should I bring for my broken toy?
Woman: Bring the toy and a clean glass jar. You can keep tiny screws in it while you work. We provide trays and tools.
Boy: Which room is it in?
Woman: Room three, upstairs beside the art room. Room two is being painted this week. Ask at the front desk if you need help.
Boy: How much will I pay?
Woman: The lesson is free. Materials cost two pounds. Please bring coins if you can.
Boy: That is fine. Thank you.
Woman: If you cannot come, please tell us before lunchtime on Friday so another student can have your place.
PART 5 · QUESTIONS 21–25
Note completion: weekend notice
Listen to an announcement about a town event. Complete questions 21–25. Write one word or number in each gap. There is one example. You will hear the announcement twice.
Event day: ______
Answer: Saturday
Transcript — Part 5
Woman: Good morning, everyone, and welcome to our Saturday repair and reuse day. The event is in the old town hall and its garden. Please use the main entrance on Green Street. The smaller door on Market Lane is for volunteers and deliveries only.
Woman: At the swap table, you can leave one old book in good condition and choose another one to take home. Please write your first name inside the book you leave. We also have a free paper-making activity. It begins at eleven o’clock in the craft room, and children must stay with an adult.
Woman: The garden team is meeting beside the tool shed at ten thirty. They will show visitors how to grow herbs in reused pots. You don’t need to bring a pot; we have plenty here. If you want to help, wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
Woman: Tea and fruit are available near the kitchen. Please bring a cup from home if you have one, because we have only a few clean cups left. The repair tables close at three, and the whole event closes at three thirty. Before you leave, check that you have all your belongings. Thank you for helping our town reuse useful things.

Learning review & listening guide
1. How to record your answers
Choose A, B or C for the picture questions in Part 1 and the conversation questions in Part 3. In Part 2, match each person to one activity A-H; use each letter once. Complete the five gaps in each form in Parts 4 and 5. Each scored question earns one mark, giving 25 marks. Examples are not scored.
2. Clue words & patterns
Read ahead and decide what information each gap needs: a day, time, object, room or price. Compare all three pictures before listening. Words such as but, instead and not can signal a changed plan. Match the final decision to the correct person. Listen to the full sentence before choosing.
3. Watch out & common mistakes
Check who is speaking: one friend's plan may differ from the other's. A door-opening time, a talk start and an event finish are different facts. Write only the missing information when the label supplies a unit or article. Use Show Answer and transcripts after trying; revealing a key does not enter an answer or earn a mark.

A a blue umbrella
B a red backpack
C a yellow lamp
