Learning objectives
- Identify people by combining clues about appearance, actions and positions.
- Listen for spelling, numbers and missing details in a short conversation.
- Match the activities or objects described in conversations to the correct person or day.
- Compare three pictures and choose the detail finally confirmed by the speakers.
- Follow colour and position instructions to locate the correct objects in a scene.
Before you start: Understand familiar everyday vocabulary, simple descriptions, numbers, names and position words.
Teacher tip: Let learners study the pictures and headings before each part. After their first attempt, discuss the clues and use the transcript and answer explanations for review.
Listening strategy: Look at the picture or form first. Listen for the final confirmed detail, spelling and position words. Check each answer against what the speakers actually say.

Examiner: We have already made that balloon blue. That is your example.
Woman: Yes, the blue balloon is easy to find. What shall I colour next?
Question 21
Examiner: Start beside the tap. There are two things we use to carry water.
Woman: The watering can and the little bucket? They are next to each other.

Question 22
Examiner: Look below the wooden bench. Someone has left a ball there.
Woman: It is round, underneath the seat.
Examiner: Use red for that ball. Keep the bench itself white.
Woman: All right. I will colour just the ball below it red.

Learning review – listen for the important details
Start with the community garden picture: notice what each child is doing, and use the clothes as a second clue. For Lucy’s cooking club form, listen to every letter in the family name and distinguish her school time from the club time. In Charlie’s week, Saturday is the planting example; use five different days for the remaining activities and leave one day unused. Compare the three pictures before each short conversation and wait for the final answer. At the garden shed, locate the whole object before choosing a colour. Question 21 earns one mark only when both the watering can and the bucket have the correct colours.
Show Answer and transcripts help you study; they do not fill your answers or award marks. You can change an answer and submit again. For colouring questions, choose a colour and click the matching object in the picture. Each instruction states the required colour.
