A Use the present perfect — not the present

For a situation that started in the past and still continues, English uses the present perfect. This is a very common mistake!

I‘ve known her for ten years.
I know her for ten years.
How long have you lived here?
How long do you live here?

B The timeline

I’ve known her started (10 years ago / since 2015) NOW (still true)
How long…?for + periodsince + pointall my life
📌
Remember — “how long … up to now” → have/has + past participle (or have been + -ing). Don’t use the present simple.
