📚 Grammar Tip — The Present Continuous
Use the present continuous to describe what you are doing now. Form: be (am/is/are) + verb-ing.
▸ I am watching TV. · He is sleeping. · We are dancing. · They are doing homework.
Make the negative with not.
▸ I am not watching TV. · He is not sleeping. · We are not dancing.
Some verbs change spelling when becoming -ing:
| Verb type | Rule | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| most verbs | add -ing | drink → drinking |
| end in consonant + e | remove e, add -ing | come → coming |
| vowel + consonant | double consonant, add -ing | sit → sitting |
| end in w, x, y | add -ing | fix → fixing |
| two vowels + consonant | add -ing | sleep → sleeping |
