Reading & Writing
Have you got any homework?
Practise two Reading tasks from Unit 6 of Complete Key for Schools — three short texts about school life (Part 2) and an open cloze text message (Part 5) — then write your own text message asking a parent for help. Instant auto-grading and a model answer.
Student life
There are three short texts about a similar topic, and seven questions. Read about Sara, Marian and Freddy, then for each question choose the correct person: A Sara, B Marian or C Freddy.

The school day begins with drama lessons at 8 o’clock. In the morning, we do dance, music, theatre, or project work. After lunch, we change into our school uniform and have normal school lessons until 4.30 in the afternoon. At the weekend, we sometimes put on shows, or have sports competitions with other schools.

I get up at 8 o’clock, and begin studying an hour later. In the morning, my dad teaches me maths and science. In the afternoon, I do sports or art with my mum. My weekends are free. I like home schooling because I can choose my own projects, and I can wear what I like.

We wake up early, at 6.45 in the morning, have breakfast at 8 o’clock, and start the first lesson at 8.45. There are six lessons every weekday. We also have two lessons on Saturday morning. There is no uniform, but we have to wear smart clothes. I’m not great at studying – it’s the hardest for me – but I win a lot of prizes for football and tennis.
For each question, choose the correct answer.
Matt’s message to his dad
Read the text messages and write one word for each gap. The words are mainly grammar words like pronouns. Gap (0) is an example. Type your answer in each box, then Submit to check.
Dad to Matt Again?! OK, Matt, I’ll drive to school. I’ll leave (11) trainers and some money at the reception. (12) you want those new pencils for your art class? (13) are on your bed.
Write a text message
Unit 6 is all about school. Imagine you forgot your school bag. Write a text message to one of your parents, asking for help, in 25 words or more. Then compare it with the model answer.
- what you forgot and where it is
- why you need it today
- what you would like your parent to do
Model answer — 25+ words
Tip: use pronouns from the unit (it, them, they) so your message isn’t repetitive, and always say please when you ask for help.
