📚 Grammar Tip — The Simple Present
Use the simple present to talk about things we do regularly.
▸ I walk to school in the morning. · He drives to work. · We play soccer after school.
Make the negative form with do not / does not.
▸ I do not walk to school. · He does not drive to work.
Third-person singular (he, she, it) — change the verb:
| Verb type | Rule | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| most verbs | add -s | likes, eats, sleeps, wears, reads |
| verbs ending in ch, sh, s, x, z | add -es | watches, washes, finishes |
| consonant + y | remove y, add -ies | worries, studies, hurries |
| vowel + y | add -s | plays, stays, buys, says |
